Your Support Opens Doors to HBCUs for NYC Students

Despite making up only 3% of U.S. colleges, HBCUs produce nearly 20% of Black college graduates and nearly $1M more in lifetime earnings for their alumni. Yet in New York City, only about 5% of public school high school graduates apply to HBCUs. Together, we can close that gap.

2026 GOAL: 50+ STUDENTS PLACED • 100% ON SCHOLARS • 15+ HBCUS

Ways You Can Support HBCU Access NY

Every contribution makes a difference. One-time gifts and recurring monthly donations help us expand HBCU advising, fund multi-campus tours, and put our HBCU resource guide into the hands of more NYC students and counselors. Donate link coming soon.

If you’re a school, community-based organization, or youth program serving high school students, we can layer HBCU-focused support into what you already do. Together we offer advising, workshops, and resources for students who are interested in HBCUs—or just starting to explore their options.

Corporate partners make a lasting impact on students’ futures and help build a stronger pipeline of diverse talent. Your company can host career talks, donate college essentials, provide scholarships, invite scholars for office visits, and create internship or job-shadowing opportunities.

Volunteers walk alongside students through one of the most important transitions in their lives. Help review applications and personal statements, support scholarship essays, or offer guidance on the many materials needed for college and financial aid.

Bring HBCU Access NY to your school, organization, faith community, or company for an “HBCU 101” seminar, webinar, or info session. We’ll share the legacy, impact, and necessity of HBCUs—and how they create belonging, leadership, and economic mobility.

From college fairs and workshops to fundraising events, hosting or sponsoring is a powerful way to expand our reach. We’ll partner with you to design an event that connects NYC students and families with clear, tangible pathways to HBCUs.

Why This Work Matters

HBCUs are unmatched engines of opportunity—but too many NYC students never hear about them as a real, attainable option.

Your support helps NYC students discover HBCUs, get the guidance they deserve, and step onto campuses where they are seen, supported, and expected to lead.

HBCUs make up just 3% of U.S. colleges yet produce nearly 20% of all Black college graduates.

NYC public schools graduate roughly 65,000–70,000 students each year, but only about 5% (~4,000) apply to HBCUs.

HBCU graduates see nearly $1M more in lifetime earnings compared to peers from non-HBCUs.

In the nation’s largest school system—where about 83% of students are BIPOC—this gap in awareness and access is too big to ignore.

HBCUs are unmatched engines of opportunity - but too many NYC students never hear about them as real, attainable options.
